Why?

30th July 2020

The Scarborough Conservation Volunteers look after and manage the Meadow in the middle of Raincliffe Woods. Today they have found the hide they constructed 3 years ago has been trashed by mindless individuals. Completely senseless destruction. The heavy earth garden roof and wooden beams required some strength to remove so we are not looking at young children here.

The conservation volunteers carry out a wide range of conservation work around the Scarborough area, cutting back hedges and shrubs, planting  trees and bulbs, rebuilding drystone walls, maintaining conservation meadows, creating nesting habitats and most importantly opportunities and support for people to volunteer and make new friends.

Maria Arnold who Chairs the Group said;

”I am so sad, disgusted, disappointed and heartbroken that this has happened, the Scarborough Conservation Volunteers work hard throughout the year to provide access and facility to the great outdoors for the community by managing the meadow including the bird hide. A great deal of effort went into the building and managing of the hide and those that did this should be ashamed of themselves. I hope that we can rebuild in the near future.“
