Forge Valley Planning Permission

To show the location of the proposed footbridge
15th July 2019

Planning permission is being sought from North York Moors National Park Planning to construct a new footbridge at the southern end of the Boardwalk in Forge Valley. (East & West Ayton end). The plan is to construct a new footbridge with excellent access for wheelchair users and pushchairs from a new car park. Raincliffe Woods Community Enterprise have been successful in an Expression of Interest for funding to replace the existing Boardwalk which is now in increasingly difficult and costly to maintain as the timber supports are rotting and failing suddenly. The funding is coming from EU money to boost Rural Tourism and must demonstrate that the investment will boost visitor numbers. The money can not just fund the replacement of the existing boardwalk. The project must demonstrate that it will stimulate additional visitors and the bid has a strong focus on ensuring those with accessibility needs have excellent access to the Boardwalk and that the design ensures they can use it independently.

We have liaised with Yorkshire Coast & Ryedale Disability Forum to ensure that it meets their needs. There will be two dedicated parking bays for disabled vehicles and also for mini coaches.
